AUTOMATIC TRANSFER SWITCHES AND GENERATOR MAINTENANCE NEW


1 Session, 8 Hours Total.
This class will instruct the students in the basics of automatic transfer switch operation and maintenance and troubleshooting as well as, proper generator operation maintenance and troubleshooting. This class covers a wide variety of generators and will not be equipment specific. In addition, topics will include the frequency of proper PM’s (preventive maintenance) and checklists that apply to all generators when providing maintenance.

BLUEPRINT READING


1 Session, 8 Hours Total. This course will provide an overview of the theories used in putting drawings on paper and review the terminology found on blueprints commonly used in the maintenance of buildings. Class will inlcude lecture, hands-on drills, and skill enhancement exercises.

BOILER OPERATION AND EFFICIENCY NEW


1 Session, 4 Hours Total. Prerequisite: A basic understanding of boilers. This seminar will cover boiler operations. We will focus on safety and burner control function, natural gas combustion train CSD-1 regulatory code, and improving boiler efficiency. Students will participate in a hands-on troubleshooting session using our specially designed combustion trainers.

DESIGNATED UST OPERATOR TRAINING


1 Session, 5 Hours Total. This seminar will provide assistance in preparation for taking the “Designated UST Operator” exam. The Instructor will review the five (5) sections covered in the ICC exam “Title 23-Chapter 16, Health & Safety Codes, Financial Requirements for UST’s, Operating & Maintaining UST Systems and Straight Talk On Tanks”. Each person will receive a copy of the California UST System Operator (Exam Reference) materials needed to study in preparation to take the ICC Exam.

ELECTRICAL TROUBLESHOOTING FUNDAMENTALS


1 Session, 8 Hours Total. This one day program will enhance the student’s ability to diagnose problems with electrical control circuits commonly found within our industry. After a brief review of basic schematic fundamentals, circuit logic, and meter use students will have the opportunity to apply this knowledge in troubleshooting ladder diagrams and motor control circuits through hands-on drills and skills enhancement practices.

FIRE PUMP TEST PREPARATORY TRAINING








1 Session, 2.5 Hours Total. The purpose and scope of this class is to serve as a coaching course to better prepare a Stationary Engineer to be successful when taking the closed book California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) multiple choice Certificate Test on the Weekly Inspection, Testing & Maintenance of Building Fire Pumps. The instructor will provide an overview of the law, guidance on completing the CSFM forms, weekly fire pump test study material, and in-class review of weekly fire pump test procedures and information. By California State law each building must maintain a copy of the NFPA 25 – 2006 Edition Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water Based Fire Protection Systems, which is also the required textbook to bring to class. NFPA 20 – 2007 Edition, Installation of Stationary Pumps for Fire Protection, is recommended for test preparation purposes, but not required for the class or by the State Fire Marshal to be at the building site. This seminar will also provide access to our On-Line multiple choice practice test based on reference CSFM Material. Class size is limited to no more than 25 students for quality instruction, so register early!

FIRE SPRINKLER INSPECTION FOR ENGINEERS NEW


1 Session, 4 Hours Total. This seminar will provide an overview of the California Title 19/NFPA 25 visual inspection criteria for fire sprinkler systems, standpipes, and fire pumps. The instructor will make a presentation of the code sections that allow trained personnel assigned by the building owner to fulfill the visual requirements of inspection. Also discussed are the limited cases in which the code allows licensed building engineering staff to test systems. In addition, definitions, reasons for testing, and a few brief videos will also be included in the class.

HANDS-ON REFRIGERATION LABS (21 HOURS)




3 Weeks, 7 Hours Per Session, 21 Hours Total. This seminar was designed to help students enhance their knowledge of air conditioning and refrigeration systems. The students will learn the operations, systems evacuation, charging, cycling, an specific controls and parameters of HVAC units through hands-on lab projects. This seminar will also cover basic troubleshooting. Attendees must furnish their own safety goggles. Class size is limited to no more than 12 students for quality instruction, so register early!

HVAC (FLUKE METER) HANDS-ON USAGE



1 Session, 2 Hours Total. A Fluke 902True RMS HVAC Clamp Meter designed specifically for HVAC applications is included in the registration fee. Students will learn how to correctly use a Fluke HVAC meter by means of demonstration and hands-on participation. Each student will receive their own kit, which contains a digital multimeter with temperature probe, current clamp, and test leads.

ICE MACHINES BASICS AND MAINTENANCE


1 Session, 8 Hours Total. This class will have a review of the components of an ice machine and how each component functions. Including a basic review of the mechanical side of the ice machine, the refrigerant cycle, and how the ice is defrosted. The students will be instructed on the sequence of operations of an ice machine. Also included will be the importance of water treatment to extend the life of the ice machine. Basic maintenance will also be covered.

JOINT COMMISSION SURVEY COMPLIANCE NEW


1 Session, 3 Hours Total. This seminar has been designed for Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs who work in hospitals and/or medical facilities. In this class you will learn how to effectively prepare and be continuously ready for a successful Joint Commission Survey using simple tools. This seminar will be facilitated by an industry professional from The Joint Commission.

METER USAGE (FEATURING UEI BRAND)


1 Session, 2 Hours Total. This class will examine the use of UEI meters. We will explore the usages of UEI Meter DM-393, its functionality and abilities, as well as proper meter safety. Students will learn how to measure safety in each function of the meter from both hands-on and theory. Cover basic Hopscotch, tie down methods of troubleshooting, proper current measuring using a temperature probe properly, when you can use continuity and ohms meter functions.

MOTOR BASICS W/METER (PREVIOUSLY PROPER MEGGER USAGE)


1 Session, 6 Hours Total. Students will receive a SUPCO M500 Megger when attending this seminar. Students will be instructed in some of the basic motor types, as well as the categories of the insulation in the motors. Discussion on why the newer motors need better insulation and the proper techniques to “Megging” a motor. A Megger can also detect wiring problems in conduit. This is an important tool in diagnosing grounded compressor motors, deteriorating insulation in electric motors and insulated wires.

NFPA 25 (PUMPS AND SPRINKLER SYSTEMS)


1 Session, 8 Hours Total. This seminar is designed to help in the awareness of NFPA 25, which helps in the inspections and annual testing and maintenance of wet sprinkler systems standpipe systems and service mains. The students will be instructed in the definitions, NFPA documents, requirements of the building owners and occupants and understanding the fire sprinkler system. Also included in class will be the Fire Pump systems, water storage tanks and water mist systems.

PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLS


1 Session, 8 Hours Total. Prerequisite: A basic understanding of electricity and computer operations. This 8-hour course is designed to instruct students with minimal knowledge of basic electricity and motor controls how to understand, troubleshoot, and write basic Programmable Logic Controller programs. Students will learn the purposes of PLCs and how they function, as well as how to convert a basic ladder logic circuit to a PLC program.

STEAM BOILER WATER TREATMENT NEW

VARIABLE AIR VOLUME RETURNING



1 Session, 8 Hours Total. This is a one-day program designed to promote the understanding of variable air volume (VAV), and the concept of air movement. It discusses different concepts in equipment and VAV design. The program introduces attendees to duct systems, valves, diffusers, controls, and zones. Students will experience the theory of VAV layout which will include an exercise to understand initial installation. Other issues discussed include positive and negative pressure problems.

VARIABLE FREQUENCY DRIVES



2 Sessions, 1-Week, 14 Hours Total. Includes workbook with programming commands and parameters. This seminar will provide a fundamental understanding of variable frequency drives as applied in HVAC applications. Students will learn how VFDs work and their application on fan motors and pump motors in HVAC systems. How VFDs extend the motor life and reduce maintenance costs will also be presented. Class size is limited to no more than 10 students for quality instruction, so register early!
